Why Zuva

Not another AI wrapper

Most contract AI tools are thin layers on top of general-purpose language models. Zuva is built on purpose-trained machine learning that has been extracting legal provisions from real contracts since 2011, now enhanced with generative AI for structured answers and summaries.

Purpose-built ML + generative AI

Our extraction models were trained by experienced lawyers over tens of thousands of hours, not prompt-engineered using a chatbot. We layer generative AI on top for structured answers and summaries. The ML finds the clauses. The gen AI helps you make sense of them.

Battle-tested at scale

18 of the top 25 M&A law firms used our underlying technology for diligence. Millions of contracts have been analyzed using it across some of the largest transactions in the world. It's not perfect, but a lot of high-quality people think it's reliable.

Built by people who understand review

Our team includes computer science PhDs doing real contracts AI research, plus experienced lawyers who've actually done the review work. The product is centered on enhancing human reviewers, making them faster and more accurate.

Case study

A global motorsports team needed to assign 2,000 contracts to a new entity

The team was changing its entity structure and needed to move all its contracts. That meant finding assignment, novation, and change-of-control terms across a wide range of agreement types. Their lean in-house team used Zuva Analyze to do it in two phases.

Phase 1: NDA screening at scale. They ran a tailored workflow on their NDAs, exported all results to a single Excel sheet, and used mail-merge to generate refreshed NDA templates where updates were needed.

Phase 2: Assignment and change-of-control across mixed agreements. They created document-type-specific workflows (software vs. supply vs. HR) with custom questions tuned to their seller-side needs. Paralegals did first-pass review; counsel did second-line checks, jumping straight to the relevant clause.

"It found everything we were looking for. The output was really effective and made it easy to decide who needed a new NDA."

— In-house lawyer, on the NDA phase

"It improved our accuracy and made second-line review faster because you can go straight to the clause."

— In-house lawyer, on the assignment phase

"100% we got ROI. I'd recommend this to literally anyone."

Common questions

How is Zuva different from other contract AI tools?

Most contract AI tools are built on general-purpose large language models with a legal interface on top. Zuva's core extraction models are purpose-built machine learning, trained by experienced lawyers over tens of thousands of hours on legal contracts since 2011. We layer generative AI on top of those results for structured answers and interpretations. The difference shows up in reliability: our AI has been used on millions of contracts across some of the largest transactions in the world.

Does Zuva use generative AI?

Yes. We use generative AI to interpret and summarize the provisions our ML models extract. For example, our "Answers" fields provide structured yes/no/conditional responses to common contract questions, with evidence from the document. The key difference is that the extraction layer underneath is purpose-built ML, not a general chatbot. The generative AI interprets what the ML finds.

Can I test Zuva before committing?

Yes. You can test Zuva on 5 documents for free, no credit card required. If you'd prefer a walkthrough, we're happy to demo the product using your documents or ours.

What output formats are available?

You can export results to Excel (including an "all results in one sheet" view for cross-document analysis) or to Word. Results can also be reviewed in-app with the ability to jump directly to clause locations. Teams use the Excel export as the basis for tracking, mail-merge, or downstream automation.

How does Zuva handle data security?

Zuva is SOC 2 Type II certified. All employees are background-checked. Documents are stored securely and deleted when you choose. We follow strict data handling protocols appropriate for sensitive deal materials.

Why is there a minimum commitment?

User onboarding, support, billing, security reviews, and contract negotiations all take real effort on our side, even at the $5,000 level. And we've found that people who care enough to do a contract review right tend to need more help along the way, which is fine. We love helping. The minimum commitment makes it easier for us to provide a good experience. Try yourself, without even talking to us. You can analyze 5 documents for free, no credit card required.

Why is Analyze so much cheaper than Reviews and so much more expensive than API?

These are very different offerings. Think of flour vs. dried pasta vs. a pasta dish at a restaurant. The API gives you raw extraction capabilities to build into your own systems. Analyze gives you a ready-to-use interface with workflows, export, and review tools. Reviews is a fully delivered service where our lawyers do the work, interpret the findings, and produce reports. We offer all three, and you should choose what fits your situation.
